In what can only be described as a bizarre internet obsession (let’s be honest here, there are all a little bizarre), “Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen” has taken the world by storm. The original artist PIKOTARO, released his video back in August. The original has amassed over 80 million in video views. So it was only a matter of time before a marketing team adopted it to capitalized on the recent phenomenon.
Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on who you are), the team behind the new live-action Death Note movie (called Death Note Light up the New World) thought it would be a great idea to have Ryuk perform the track. If you thought the original one was a bit strange, then fear not, computer generated Ryuk will certainly take the cake. So prepare yourself and witness the glory below:
It is rather amazing that this version of PPAP has already reached over 11 million in views in just a short time. If that doesn’t make you want to see the new film, then I am not sure what will. Death Note Light up the New World debuted on October 29th and is currently in the theaters in Japan.
