Finally. Finally! FINALLY! Finally we have gotten more details about the release of Attack on Titan Season 2. It’s been about a year and a half since the second season was confirmed for production and since then there has been nothing but silence on the radio about the new season of the smash hit series. (Aren’t you supposed to ride that hype train rather than let the flames die down and try to keep the interest high with numerous manga, move and anime spin-offs?)
At an Attack on Titan live reading event held this weekend in Tokyo, a visual for the new season was unveiled along with the scheduled premiere time being in Spring 2017. The announcement came from director Tetsuro Araki, Yuki Kaji (seiyū of Eren), Yui Ishikawa (seiyū of Mikasa), and Marina Inoue (seiyū of Armin). Aside from Tetsuro Araki taking on the position of Chief Director and Masashi Koizuka moving into a Director position from Episode Director, the staff for the series will be remaining the same.
I’m sure this is entirely unnecessary, but for the sake of due diligence I’ll include this. If you’re unfamiliar with Attack on Titan, the original manga series has been published in Bessatsu Shonen magazine since 2009 and has released 19 volumes at the time of writing. The massively popular anime adaptation aired in 2013 and ran for a total of 25 episodes with 5 OVAs to follow. Crunchyroll simulcast the series as it aired and currently offers the entirety of the anime series on its streaming platform for all. Crunchyroll describes the series:
Known in Japan as Shingeki no Kyojin, many years ago, the last remnants of humanity were forced to retreat behind the towering walls of a fortified city to escape the massive, man-eating Titans that roamed the land outside their fortress. Only the heroic members of the Scouting Legion dared to stray beyond the safety of the walls – but even those brave warriors seldom returned alive. Those within the city clung to the illusion of a peaceful existence until the day that dream was shattered, and their slim chance at survival was reduced to one horrifying choice: kill – or be devoured!
