So this is pretty huge news. On November 27th at an event celebrating the tenth anniversary of the October 10th premiere of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, news regarding the future of the Code Geass series was revealed. News that wasn’t expect by many and certainly not by myself. Be warned, some events that are spoilers to the original series are addressed below.
The first announcement came in regards to a planned series of Code Geass films. The trilogy of movies will encompass the content of the combined 50 episodes of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (or at least what they can fit into three movies). The movies will begin their theatrical debut in January of 2017 and will feature rerecorded dialogue and new animation.
Now for the news that truly blew my mind! In addition to the planned film trilogy, a new addition to the series based in the Code Geass universe was revealed! Most importantly this new series isn’t a side story or spin off, it’s a new part to the main story. Titled Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection, the series will take place a few years after the events of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 and the Zero Requiem and features a very much alive Lelouch.
At the moment it’s not clear if this new series will be a TV anime series or an additional film(s), but it’s certainly something to be excited for! As mentioned, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion aired over 10 years ago, back in October of 2006, and I’ve been a fan of the series since it first aired. I’m certainly among those who count themselves as extremely excited for this new series and seeing more from the Code Geass universe.
